The Impact of FDI on CO2 Emissions in Latin America
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper uses panel Granger causality tests to study the relationship between sector specific FDI and CO2 emissions. Using a sample of 18 Latin American countries for the 1980-2007 period, we find causality running from FDI in polluting intensive industries (“the dirty sector”) to CO2 emissions per capita. This result is robust to controlling for other factors associated with CO2 emissions and using the ratio of CO2 emissions to GDP. For other sectors, we find no robust evidence that FDI causes CO2 emissions. JEL categories: F21, Q50

Impact of Financial Development on CO2 Emissions: Panel Data Evidence from Iran’s Economic Sectors
Introduction: The national trend indicates that various provinces of Iran have experienced in attaining economic growth exclusive of parallel observing a boost in CO2 emissions. It is clear that the effects of CO2 emissions on health indicators such as death rate, infant mortality, and health expenditures have been ignored by policy makers over the last decade. Methods: This study for ...
متن کاملThe impact of environmental pollutants emission (carbon dioxide) on life expectancy of men and women in Iran
Background and Objective: Among greenhouse gases, CO2 has a crucial role; thus, its impact on health indicators such as life expectancy is of great importance. Hence, one of the most important challenges in the health sector has been the impact of the environmental pollutants emission, namely CO2, on life expectancy of men and women. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive-analytical and ...
متن کاملTrade Openness and CO2 Emissions in Iran, 1971-2008
The increase of greenhouse gases (GHG) in which CO2 emissions constitute the principal component, is of major environmental problems of all societies. Economic growth impels intensive use of resources and as a result, more residues and wastes thrown in the nature that could lead to environmental degradation. This article tries to trace the eventual relationship between trade openness and enviro...
متن کاملThe Impact of Petroleum Product Intensity, Gasoil consumption and GDP on CO2 Emissions in Transportation Sector of Iran
The present study, in addition to investigating the impacts of GDP and gasoil consumption as the biggest consumed petroleum product in Iranian transportation sector, by introducing petroleum product intensity, studied their effects on CO2 emission in this sector. To evaluate the impact of the variables, we estimated an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model between the years 1996 and 201...
متن کاملThe Effect of Auto Tariff Protections on CO2 Emissions
According to released official statistics of greenhouse gas emissions in 2010, CO2, which is produced by fossil fuels and industrial processes, accounts for 65 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions. The transport sector, in turn, is responsible for 23% of CO2 emissions. Researchers have been claiming that car manufacturers have not made significant efforts to reduce the pollution lev...
